Postcard Correspondence

I created a series of 3 ‘Beetlejuice’ themed postcards for Gallery 1988‘s group show ‘Postcard Correspondence’.

Fun fact I learned while creating this series: In the movie, the deserts of the Afterlife are referred to by Beetlejuice as Saturn, but in the original movie script it was meant to be Saturn’s moon Titan. Who knew?

Show opens this Friday, March 20th. Read more about the show here.

G1988 + Cartoon Network Adventure Time

Stoked to be a part of Gallery 1988‘s official Cartoon Network Adventure Time art show.

Even more stoked that my poster made the flyer!

I went a bit crazy with their arms; which is exactly what my favourite thing is about the show: Finn & Jake’s NOODLE ARMS!

It’s the first poster I’ve designed after quite some time, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that it’s for Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time. The show opens on April 3rd, 2014. If you’re in the area, be sure to check it out!

New York Comic Con 2012

I’m was beyond excited and honoured to be included in this years lineup of artist signings at NYCC, alongside Tim DoyleJoshua BudichDave Perillo and more! I made an appearance on Sunday, October 14th at 2pm at booth #3220 where I signed my Fantastic Mr. Fox prints. It was a blast.

Jared Gilman, star of Moonrise Kingdom, popped by the Spoke Art booth to see all the Wes Anderson inspired art. He drew quite a crowd, which I later thanked him for; it was during my signing so I looked SUPER popular.

25.10.13 Update: You can purchase the print here.

11.10.13 Original Post: When Ken Harman asked me to participate in Spoke Art’s annual Bad Dads show, a tribute to the films of Wes Anderson, I knew immediately I was going to create something for one of my favorite movies, Fantastic Mr. Fox.

The official Bad Dads show opens up on Halloween weekend at Spoke Arts San Francisco space, but they will be debuting a collection of exclusive prints this weekend at New York Comic Con.

I’m beyond excited and honoured to be included in this years lineup of artist signings at NYCC, alongside Tim Doyle, Joshua Budich, Dave Perillo and more! I’m scheduled to make an appearance on Sunday, October 14th at 2pm at booth #3220. Please come say hi!

The standard edition of my poster is bright orange, and the variant (NYCC exclusive) is printed in metallic copper. I haven’t seen them yet in person, but I was told that the variant turned out a bit more brown than copper. I think it still looks great though. See below.

Next up: Bad Dads

I’m super excited to be a part of Spoke Art‘s Bad Dad’s show, which is debuting at NYCC and continuing in San Fran from October 26th – November 24th. I will be posting my artwork based off of my favorite Wes Anderson film, Fantastic Mr. Fox, later this week.

If you are attending NYCC, be sure to pop by Spoke Art’s Booth (#3220) to say hello; I’ll be signing prints on Sunday morning.

LSOH Creative Process

A friend recently asked me to share a bit of my creative process; specifically with the ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ print. Depending on timelines, it varies from project to project, but this is how I tackled this design.

I always start by creating an inspiration board.

Inspiration Board

I roughly sketch as many ideas as I can think of until I’m happy with one concept.

Rough Idea

Using Illustrator, I create all of my elements as vector objects to start experimenting with layout, color & typography.

Once I decide on overall direction of the poster, I redraw everything from scratch; this time with more precision.

Leaf Detail

Once the main work is done, I start refining typography.

Lastly, I add all the page detail (aged effects).
