Art Spring Cleaning

I finally made time to go through the monstrosity that took over my closet (that was once for my clothes). Each box contained unopened artist proofs from various shows/galleries from 2012. I need to make room if I want to create new art, so here are the last remaining copies that I have been selfishly hoarding.

Please note, the prices reflect the extremely limited quantities I have in my possession. This is it folks! The rest are sold out and selling for much more on ebay (if you can find them).

The sale starts Friday, March 22nd at 12:00pm EST on my SHOPippo.

Ok, here’s what I found.

Applied Arts March 2013

The March/April issue of Applied Arts magazine is finally hitting magazine stands! I am thrilled to be featured as the winner of the 2012 Illustration Applied Arts AACE Award.

Old Toys: Animaniacs

Here’s another great find while rummaging through old boxes of toys; 3″ PVC figurines of Yakko, Wakko and Dot, from the cartoon classic, Animaniacs.

Animaniacs PVC Figures

Last month at NYCC, I was fortunate to catch a panel with Rob Paulsen, the voice of Yakko Warner (along with countless other infamous cartoon characters). On the whim, he performed The Nations Of The World Song. Mind=blown!

Old Toys: Food Fighters

My Mom’s basement is a toy hunters dream. It’s filled with box after box of old toys, plush dolls, books and action figures (some even in the original boxes). I made a new pact that every time I visit Ottawa, I would take a box back with me to Toronto. Although I don’t have enough room to display everything in my current home, I will take pictures of old time favorites to post here and Flickr.

The first batch to make it’s way home with me, is my collection of Food Fighters action figures.

A memorable bunch of anthropomorphic food items dressed in military gear, that was divided into two armies: the Kitchen Commandos and the Refrigerator Rejects. They were released from Mattel in 1988.

I LOVED these guys! I still remember seeing the commercial for the first time. Shortly after, I had Mean Weener (hot dog); a gift from my Grandmother. Eventually, I managed to collect the full gang. There were ten figurines in total, along with a few accessory toysBelow are some photos of what I’ve managed to hold onto over the years. To see all the shots I took (and larger versions), check out my Flickr page.

The Kitchen Commandos
Burgerdier General, Major Munch, Sergeant Scoop, Private Pizza, Lieutenant Legg (missing)

The Refrigerator Rejects
Mean Weener, Short Stack, Taco Terror, Fat Frenchy, Chip the Ripper (missing)

I’m back in Ottawa this weekend for a family event; I’ll see what I can dig up!

I Finally Have A Shop!

I know, I know. No big deal, right? I mean, every artist under the sun has a place where you can purchase their art. I fully admit that I’ve been procrastinating on building a shop for months. But my packing supplies are stocked up, and I have an adequate amount of art to sell (with more to come), so my SHOPippo is finally open!

For those interested, I am still waiting to receive my artist proofs of my Brave poster; as soon as I do I will announce it on Twitter. In future, I will also be putting a few full sets of my Muppet posters up for sale.

Be sure to check back for updates!

New York Comic Con 2012

I’m was beyond excited and honoured to be included in this years lineup of artist signings at NYCC, alongside Tim DoyleJoshua BudichDave Perillo and more! I made an appearance on Sunday, October 14th at 2pm at booth #3220 where I signed my Fantastic Mr. Fox prints. It was a blast.

Jared Gilman, star of Moonrise Kingdom, popped by the Spoke Art booth to see all the Wes Anderson inspired art. He drew quite a crowd, which I later thanked him for; it was during my signing so I looked SUPER popular.
